Doctours: One-Stop Medical Tourism

Given the high cost of medical treatment in the US, it’s no surprise that medical tourism is booming. An increasing number of Americans are heading abroad, pairing travel with treatments, largely to save money. Answering the call is Doctours, a Los Angeles-based online platform for booking trips and treatments for medical and dental care, which announced this week that it’s expanding its services to 35 countries. That seems shrewd, considering that medical and dental tourism is a $439 billion global market growing at a rate of 25% per year, according to Doctours.

The company was founded by Katelyn O’Shaughnessy, an award-winning travel agent who became an entrepreneur as the CEO & Founder of the travel app and website, TripScope. She was also recognized as one of the Forbes 30 Under 30. She exited TripScope when it was acquired in 2017 and has been working on Doctours since then, as well as serving as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Cornell University with the Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship.
