Utah’s Powder Mountain: Inside The Largest Ski Expansion In North American History
By Larry Olmsted
For most ski resorts, adding a single lift, a handful of new trails, or a lodge is a major single season expansion – and one that’s usually announced and publicized a year or two in advance.
That’s what makes the biggest story in skiing this year, the coming winter at Utah’s Powder Mountain, doubly amazing. Not only is it what the mountain calls “the largest lift-serviced resort expansion in North American history,” but it was kept hush-hush until today (okay, I knew last week). That’s almost as shocking as the scope of the terrain expansion itself, scheduled to open mid-December – just over two months from now.
