My Over the Top 10: Fantastically Flamboyant City Hotels

The design concept here is that when guests enter, they think they’ve “ended up in the wrong century and in the home of an eccentric lady from the previous century.”

If it’s not for everyone, it’s probably for me.
That’s one of my favorite travel credos. I was reminded of it when I stepped into the purple-on-purple lobby of the Dorsia Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden (of all places) last month, was greeted by an attendant wearing a vest and bow tie, and heard the strains of big band coming over the sound system. I was even further smitten when I went up to my room and discovered two pairs of purple velveteen bedroom slippers, which matched my headboard and bedframe.
