Smart Deals: The Apartments at the Athenaeum, London

The Deal: The Athenaeum, one of London's legendary five star hotels, has a 299 pounds sterling rate (approximately $486). That's per night based on a three night weekend stay for a Friday/Saturday/Sunday night in a one-bedroom apartment.

Why It's a Deal: One-bedroom apartments at The Athenaeum are usually priced at 750 pounds sterling per night (about $1,220).

The Backstory: The 34 Apartments at The Atheneum are in an Edwardian mansion block and decorated in two distinct styles.  The Classic British Collection consists of apartments designed in a classically British fashion, while the apartments in the Modern British Collection are all individual and unique.

Apartments at The Athenaeum are linked to the hotel by a private corridor and each apartment offers all the facilities of the five-star property: concierge and housekeeping service, a fully-equipped health club, free WiFi and complimentary snacks from the mini-bar. Better yet, it's ideal for families, since a one-bedroom with sitting room can accommodate a family of four. The Athenaeum also has one of the best locations in London, directly opposite Green Park and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace. This offer is good through March 31, 2010.

Caveat: London's prices can still make the weak of wallet tremble.

Being weak of wallet I would like to add that there is no need to stay in Mayfair to enjoy a weekend in London…and certainly no need to pay this much even if it is a discount. Frightening.

In other words the most expensive Cities in the world to buy a house or apartment in. I heard that it was London, where I live or Tokyo.
