Smart Deals: The Peninsula Shanghai

The Deal: The new Peninsula Shanghai, which is set on the historic Bund in the heart of the city, opens on October 19, 2009 with the Peninsula Preview Rate.

Why It's a Deal: The rate is approximately US$295 per night — a fraction of what a stay at a Peninsula hotel normally costs — and includes daily breakfast for two and round-trip airport transfers. The rate is good for stays from October 19, 2009 through Feb. 28, 2010. The Peninsula group is well known for its service and amenities and this is only the ninth Peninsula property worldwide. The hotel has 235 guestrooms, including 44 suites, and claims that its accommodations “are among the largest in Shanghai.” The interiors are Art Deco-inspired.

Caveat: Bring a warm jacket (maybe one made in China). Shanghai is chilly in winter.
