THE DEAL: Marmara Manhattan, New York, NY
THE BACKSTORY: If you’ve looked at Manhattan hotel prices lately, you know that a weekend in the city has become a pricey proposition. Spending $300, $400 or even $500 a night for less than thrilling digs is not uncommon. Then there’s the Marmara Manhattan. While not exactly a household name, this hotel has a number of things going for it. It has a reasonably quiet Upper East Side location, some rooms have a great view, and the rates (see below) make a trip to New York affordable (well, by New York standards anyway). It’s really an extended-stay property but if there’s room, you can make it your weekend retreat.
THE ROOMS:108 studios and one-, two and three bedroom apartments, ranging in size from 360 square feet to 1,450 square feet. Furnishings are hotel-modern, many rooms are sunny and the best offer views of the Manhattan skyline and the East River.
MORE REASONS TO STAY: There’s 24 hour concierge service, a gym, laundry facilities and housekeeping.
THE DEAL: From November 1 to December 31, 2007, rates for studios begin at $319, standard one bedrooms from $399, superior one bedrooms from $429 and deluxe one bedrooms from $459. Taxes are extra.
INSIDER TIP: This is the edge of the Carnegie Hill neighborhood and it’s ideal if your weekend plans include Museum Mile.
CAVEAT: There is no restaurant in the hotel. But in New York City, which has at least a dozen restaurants, delis, cafes and bars per block, who needs one?
