Sleeping Around NYC: WestHouse

Sometimes you want to stay at home. You want to curl up in a favorite chair, put your feet up and munch away when you get hungry. But that’s not always possible. If you happen to be visiting New York City, then you should be staying at WestHouse, a 172-room boutique hotel, inspired by old Hollywood glamour that brings all the creature comforts of home to their “residents.”

WESTHOUSE_LOBBY_12_20_13-21246Located on West 55th Street, WestHouse is mere steps from Carnegie Hall, several more steps to Lincoln Center and a short walk to most Broadway theaters. But convenience is not its only attribute. Innovations start with food. For a nominal resident fee guests are offered enough food, drink and snacks to help you through full days of sightseeing or business meetings…before you venture out to sample the city’s great restaurants or theater. Breakfast is a sumptuous buffet with everything you could want to start the day; follow that with afternoon high tea; follow that with evening light fare. And through it all, assorted beverages, barista coffee, tea and water are always available, with wine and Champagne in the evenings. Enjoy all the goodies in the lobby “living rooms” where you can indeed put your feet up and make yourself at home. Another smart touch is the mini frig in every room to make middle of the night snacking even easier.

One of life’s great luxuries is having someone pamper you from head to toe. WestHouse has wisely partnered with GlamSquad, the leading provider of mobile beauty services. With just a touch of a button on your room phone, you can make an appointment for a hair stylist, make-up artist or manicurist to tend to your beauty needs without ever having to leave the comfort of your guest room. Just sit back in a bathrobe and take it all in. Of course during my visit I had to experiment and had a perfect blow out done quickly and efficiently while a rain storm raged outside.

WestHouse-Outdoor-TerraceAnd speaking of rooms…those at WestHouse are a tranquil palette of soft neutrals. The tufted upholstered headboard and sleek furnishings kept the Art Deco theme going and the glam photos on walls and in public spaces contributed to the ambiance. There was a great bathroom with plenty of storage space, but, alas, the usual poor reading light. Hotel designers, listen up!

I’m back home now. I’m hungry, but have to prepare my own snack. Time for a blow dry? Do it myself. Ah, hotel life…it really is like being home, but much much better.
