I was reminded of it when I stepped into the purple-on-purple lobby of the Dorsia Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden (of all places) last month, was greeted by an attendant wearing a vest and bow tie, and heard the strains of big band coming over the sound system. I was even further smitten when I went up to my room and discovered two pairs of purple velveteen bedroom slippers, which matched my headboard and bedframe.
