Having gone to school in the shadow of Mohonk Mountain House, I had the pleasure of many sunset swims across her lake, as well as hikes around its perimeter. It’s a magical place that transports you to another time. Fall is gorgeous in the “Gunks” and with its proximity to the Culinary Institute of America, good food abounds in the town of New Paltz. As I recall Mohonk’s kitchen was famous for their prime rib, too. Can’t wait to take my husband back there!

My wife and I hiked around this mountain top before we got married and had a wounderful time. We never dreamed of being able to afford the over $500 a night to stay there, so wining this would be a gread 5yr anniversary present for us.

I would love to give my husband the much deserved vacation he needs. We have not had a vacation since 2003 when I became sick and have been in & out of the hospital alot and finally lost my job. He took right over and worked extreme OT hours and then took over a night shift that paid more. I feel so bad that he has gone through so much for me. I would love to give something back to him for all the love he has shown me these last years. He could have walked out on me and taken the easy road but he didn’t. We have never been to this place but it looks like it is right up our alley. We used to take our yearly vacations and go to a different national park or a historical area. We were never ones for beach vacations although we would go but find some adventures to go on besides just laying in the sun. Nothing beats watching the sun go down on the water and listening to the waves. I hope if I don’t win this one, I will keep trying so that he can have some much needed rest.

My grandmother was sent a postcard from the Lake Mohonk Mountain House in August 1964. I look at the colorful panaromic picture of this resort often. The sender remarked how wonderful the resort food and scenery was and that her enjoyment level was high. I have always wondered what it would be like to experience this myself.

Married 45 years, with little traveling in our life style, my husband and I would thoroughly enjoy such a “spacation”! Nearing retirement and deciding to move from our close location to Mohonk, we hope to have the chance to visit there before we leave for the beautiful Southwest!
